Playoff Fantasy Hockey Challenge

OVERVIEW

Playoff Fantasy Hockey Challenge brings together the excitement of weekly player selections, the satisfaction of strategizing around the clock, and the thrill of all the NHL playoff action.

With the Playoff Fantasy Hockey Challenge, you begin the playoff season owning the rights to every player participating in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs with the task of icing a team of ten starting players each week. "How can I possibly lose?" you may ask. Well, there is one small catch. You can only select a player to start on your team a maximum of THREE times throughout the course of the playoffs. So go ahead, choose Sidney Crosby for the first three weeks. But he won't be available to your squad for the remainder of the playoffs. The Playoff Fantasy Hockey Challenge gives you the thrill and challenge of mapping out your entire season one week at a time.

SIGN-UP

To sign-up for Playoff Fantasy Hockey Challenge, complete the registration form online at http://www.nhl.com/fantasy/index.html. No purchase necessary. Participants will be asked to create a user ID and password, which they will use for future login to their team page.

JOIN/CREATE A LEAGUE

After filling out the registration, a Participant can create or join a public league or a private league of friends with similar interests, fantasy skill level, etc. to compete against. When creating a private league, the Participant will be asked to enter a league name and password which can be used by the Participant's friends to join at anytime. Each member of a league must meet the Participant eligibility requirements. A password is not required to create a public league.

HOW TO PLAY

To play, you must submit a weekly team roster for each Challenge Week. Specifically, you can choose a total of ten players for your team roster from a list of players online. This list may be updated throughout the Challenge. During the Challenge, you can only use a player for your roster for a maximum of three scoring periods. Your team of ten players must consist of the following:

6 Forwards (C, LW or RW)
3 Defensemen
1 Goaltender

Players may be selected only at the positions listed. Player position listings are final and will not change for the duration of the Challenge. Participants may submit or change their team roster for a Challenge Week at any time prior to the 1PM EST deadline on Monday (except for Challenge Week 1 where the deadline is 1pm EST on Wednesday, April 9).

Lineups will carry over from week to week, but once a player has been used for three scoring periods during the Challenge, that player will stop accruing points.

SCORING

For each Challenge Week, points will be earned based on the real-life performance of all ten players that you selected for that Challenge Week. Scoring weeks always run Monday through Sunday (except Challenge Week 1 and Challenge Week 9 - see below). The points earned by your selected players will be added together to generate your score for that Challenge Week. You must submit a separate weekly team roster for a Challenge Week in accordance with the deadlines above in order to receive any points for that Challenge Week. Points earned from the 10-man roster that you selected for that Challenge Week will be determined by the scoring system as follows:

Skater Points
Goal 3
Assist 1
Power Play Goal Bonus 1
Short-Handed Goal Bonus 1
Game-Winning Goal Bonus 1
Overtime Goal Bonus 2
Penalty Shot Goal Bonus 2
Hat Trick Bonus 3
Shot on Goal .5

Goaltender Points
Save 0.5
Win 5
Shutout Bonus 3
Goal Against (-1)

Scoring Examples:
  • A power play goal scored in overtime is worth 7 points
    (goal = 3, power play = 1, overtime = 2, game-winner = 1)
  • A shutout victory is worth 8 points
    (win = 5, shutout = 3)
  • Scoring is calculated weekly and is based on the total (not average) number of points each player earns in a week. Game weeks run Monday through Sunday (except Challenge Week 1 and Challenge Week 9 - see below). Scoring is based only on the games actually played each week. If, for any reason, a player's game is postponed or is not played due to the playoff series ending, you will not receive points for that player for those games not played in the Challenge Week.

Only one team roster is allowed per person per Challenge Week. No responsibility is assumed for late, lost or misdirected entries.

    CHALLENGE PERIODS/DEADLINES:

The Challenge begins with the first playoff game scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, 2008, and ends after the last game, estimated to be Monday, June 9, 2008. Any games played before April 9, 2008 or after June 9, 2008 do NOT count toward your weekly or postseason-to-date totals.

The Challenge consists of nine (9) weekly periods ("Challenge Week 1", " Challenge Week 2", etc., collectively " Challenge Weeks"). All lineups are due by 1 pm EST on Monday. All Challenge Weeks consist of all games played Monday through Sunday, except for Challenge Week 1 and Challenge Week 9.
